AFRICA 2005 SAFARI
A trip has been planned for my brother Jim and me during the last two weeks of December 2005.
The destination: Tanzania. Here's the itinerary.

Sunday, December 18, 2005

Dot Jim and I depart from Fort Lauderdale and fly to Detroit, then transfer to a flight to Amsterdam.


Monday, December 19, 2005


Dot We arrive at Amsterdam and transfer to a flight to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania via Kilimanjaro. We're met and transferred to our motel.

Dot We stay overnight at the Holiday Inn Dar es Salaam.


Tuesday, December 20, 2005


Dot Our morning is at leisure. In the afternoon we catch a flight from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma via Tabora. We're met and transferred to our hotel.

Dot We stay overnight at the Kigoma Hilltop Hotel.


Wednesday, December 21, 2005


Dot We take a boat (half hour to an hour depending on lake conditions) to Gombe Stream National Park, then transfer to our camp.

Thursday, December 22, 2005


Dot In the morning we track chimpanzees. In the afternoon we continue tracking chimps or take a walk on the beach, or go swimming, or make a visit to local fishing villages.

Friday, December 23, 2005


Dot We transfer by boat to Kigoma, then catch a charter flight to the Serengeti Airstrip, where we're met by our guide and transferred to camp.

Dot We have lunch, then in the afternoon go on our first game drive in the Serengeti (links).

Dot We stay overnight at Migration Camp.

Dot After breakfast, we drive to the Ngorongoro Crater (Links), stopping along the way at the Oldupai Gorge (Links) for a visit to Richard Leakey's Museum and Archeological Site, where traces of early man were unearthed. We have a picnic lunch at Oldupai.

Dot We stay overnight at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge, which is located on the northeastern rim of the crater.

Dot With a packed breakfast, we descend to the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a game drive, return to the lodge for lunch, then return to the crater floor for an afternoon game drive.

Dot We stay overnight at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge.

Thursday, December 29, 2005


Dot We drive to Tanangire Park, the third largest national park in Tanzania. After lunch we have anohter game drive, then proceed to the Tanangire Sopa Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Dot We stay overnight at the Tarangire Sopa Lodge.

Dot We enjoy a full day of safari drives and other activities.

Dot We drive to Arusha where we have lunch and an afternoon visit to the Arusha Town Center. After dinner we transfer to the Kilimanjaro Airport where we board our flight back to Amsterdam.

Dot We stay overnight on the flight.


Sunday, Janaury 1, 2006


Dot We arrive at the Amsterdam Airport, where we connect with our flights back to the U.S. We should arrive at our homes in the evening.
